A man accused of beating a 78-year-old man to death with a metal pole and injuring two other men remains in custody in Queensland.Richard Zoltan Babos, 36, was not present when his matters were mentioned in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court today.He is charged with multiple offences, including murder, attempted murder, and acts intended to maim or disfigure.The charges relate to a crime spree Mr Babos is alleged to have carried out around the Queensland town of Childers, 300 kilometres north of Brisbane, in May this year.Police allege Mr Babos had been driving along North Street at about 2:30pm on May 27 when he reversed into several cars.One of the drivers, a 65-year-old Howard man, got out of his car to inspect the damage and Mr Babos allegedly reversed into him and punched him several times before leaving the scene.Police say Mr Babos then travelled to Whitebridge Road in North Isis, where he allegedly punched 78-year-old Lawrence Elliott in the head before hitting him with a metal pole.Mr Elliott died at the scene.Police said Mr Babos then drove to Crescent Street in Childers, where he allegedly assaulted a 66-year-old man.Mr Babos was taken into custody after being restrained by bystanders.Mr Babos's lawyer, Jackie Lynch, told the court she had received a brief of evidence on August 18, but that there were some outstanding matters, including scientific evidence.Police prosecutor Leon Casey told the court DNA results were "taking a long time".He said it would be a 12- month wait for the DNA evidence, but Magistrate Stephen Byrne asked for the matter to be adjourned to later this year.The case will return to court on December 15.
