"Council undertook a range of targeted initiatives to promote the Shellharbour air routes to the broader Illawarra community, including the most recent "Fly from home" campaign .. in August last year," a council spokesperson said."Link Airways was asked to participate and contribute." The council said it had maintained a positive working relationship with Link Airways and would continue to work with airline partners to support the return of passenger services. Wollongong City Lord Mayor, Tania Brown, said the suspension was "not unexpected" given global fuel pressures, saying similar challenges were being felt across regional aviation networks.She said the Wollongong City Council promoted Shellharbour Airport through its tourism channels.Federal Whitlam MP Carol Berry said it was "disappointing" to hear Link Airways would suspend services from Shellharbour Airport.She says the Albanese government is "engaging strongly across the aviation sector" on jet fuel supply issues linked to the conflict in the Middle East, with a focus on ensuring regional communities "remain connected to the services they need."
