A family has escaped unharmed after an alleged arson attack on their home in Melbourne's north-east overnight.Police are investigating the suspected "targeted" attack on a home in Ford Court, Mill Park, about 1:15am."We've been told that a family who were home were able to evacuate to the rear yard when they were woken by the fire," Sergeant Julianne Newman said."[The family] wasn't injured, I must say that, luckily."Fire Rescue Victoria said firefighters managed to get the blaze under control within about 15 minutes."The incident was deemed under control at 1:28am," a spokesperson said.Investigators will look into whether the fire is linked to any other incidents.A crime scene has been established, and an arson chemist and detectives are expected to attend the scene later today.One of the neighbours, Neil, told 774 ABC Melbourne that his barking dog woke him up when the house was ablaze."I think someone threw a Molotov cocktail through their front window," he said."My dog woke me up; she was barking inside, and I came out to see fire and police."It is a quiet little court; it's a bit concerning, especially when something like that happens."Another neighbour, Anu, spoke to 774 ABC Melbourne from the front of the burnt-out home and said he was woken by a loud explosion."I feel pretty shaken up; we both [my wife and I] both called in sick," he said."This is a rental property, and we moved here just two, three months [ago]."It used to be a peaceful place; these residents have been living here for 20 years, or so, and so it was quite welcoming, but I'm quite shocked now."Police have urged anyone with information or potentially relevant dash-cam footage to contact CrimeStoppers.
