Australians are being urged to check their superannuation accounts to ensure they're not being ripped off by their bosses, with new data showing some workers are being underpaid hundreds of dollars in super yearly.The Super Members Council (SMC) has released fresh analysis of data from the Australian Taxation Office, showing a quarter of Australian workers were shortchanged a collective $24 billion between 2018 and 2023.The SMC broke down that total by state and territory, finding underpayments were highest in NSW in those five years, with a total $8.1 billion shortfall SMC's data from 2021-22 showed unpaid super averaged $1,810 per affected worker per year.From 1 July 2026, employers have to pay employees' superannuation guarantee at the same time as their salary and wages, instead of quarterly, under new 'payday' super laws
